And how can I work around this problem?Īssumption: Mac machine and you already have installed homebrew. Ironically, the "Java" control panel under System Preferences shows only Java 1.8! usr/libexec/java_home -V still only lists the old Java 1.6. I've tried adding a symbolic link to make it look like 1.8 is in the /System/Library. But /usr/libexec/java_home doesn't find 1.8, so all the posts I've found on how to set your current java version don't work. Not sure why the latest installer puts this in /Library instead of /System/Library (nor what the difference is). I ran Oracle's Java 8 installer, and the files look like they ended up at /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_05.jdkīut previous versions are at /System/Library/Java/JavaFrameworks/jdk1.6. I'm using IntelliJ 13 CE and Mac OS X 9 Mavericks. I want to do some programming with the latest JavaFX, which requires Java 8. The Keychron K2 features the ability to connect to up to three devices at a time, which I found particularly handy when utilizing it either on my PC or MacBook Pro to work and write. It starts out at just $69, and for that, you get a decent-sized gaming keyboard with great wireless functionality and Gateron mechanical switches. The Keychron K2 redefines affordability for wireless gaming keyboards. Read our full Logitech G915 TKL review (the smaller version). It's the wireless gaming keyboard I've been using for well over a year now, and it's still going strong as the day I got it. The Logitech G915 feels like a logical evolution of what a wireless mechanical keyboard should be-featuring excellent connectivity, impressive battery life, and an uncompromising array of features. At least you can find the G915 for a lot cheaper than its MSRP, with discounts and sales aplenty. The G915 does, however, have an identical wired cousin, the G815, which is 'only' $150. At an MSRP of $250, it's drastically more expensive than many of the wired keyboards we recommend. The sole drawback to the G915 is its astronomical price tag. There's not a drop of perceivable lag or latency about it, and I found I could get away with using the keyboard far enough away from the receiver that I could no longer read the text I was typing, which is sure to cover most realistic scenarios.Įven though you'll want to stick with Lightspeed for the most part, thus ensuring the most stable connection, wireless can also be delivered via Bluetooth, and is swiftly accessible at the press of a button. It's a simple set-up, just plug the USB receiver into an available USB Type-A port and you're away. Wireless capability is provided by Logitech's Lightspeed tech. Turning off the RGB lighting dramatically extends that life, allowing it to function for up to 100 hours without recharging, but who's going to do that? However, the real test is in battery life-thankfully, the G915 passes with flying colors, boasting a 30+ hour lifespan with full RGB brightness on a single charge. The aluminum-on-plastic frame is incredibly sturdy and looks like a piece of modern art (in a good way). The G915 is slim but remarkably dense, weighing a bit more than you'd think from the looks. The Logitech G915 feels like a logical evolution of what a wireless mechanical keyboard should be. Ideally, you'd also pair the best wireless gaming keyboard with the best wireless gaming headset and the best wireless mouse, in order to break completely free of cables. Here is the list of those that stood out, to give you an idea of which will suit you best. We've tested countless wireless gaming keyboards for speed, reliability, connectivity, build quality, and much more. Basically, apart from the obvious lack of a wire, you'd be hard-pressed to spot the difference between the best wireless and best wired gaming keyboards. Though even generally wireless keyboards have improved significantly over the years, and where once they were sluggish and ate through their batteries in hours, these days they offer impressive stamina and are just as fast as their wired counterparts. For someone that reviews many gaming keyboards, that's a pretty massive compliment. It's actually been around for a couple of years now, but it's a wireless keyboard I continue to use in my day-to-day life.

Unbiased and independent, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain by being as straightforward as possible. With a wink and a smile, they see themselves as the study-buddy consumers need to help them to untangle the complicated insurance jargon while still knowing when they can have a bit of fun. Plus, it was able to import some information along the way, so I didn’t need all of my personal records on hand. It’s quick and easy, and it even provided some education along the way. The process of comparing quotes on The Zebra centers on completing a simple survey. And for anyone who has been swooned by a quick-talking insurance salesperson before, you’ll appreciate their approach. You’ll also be sure to notice the refreshing simple and direct way that The Zebra communicates. Committing to no text or email spam truly makes the experience risk-free. Some quote comparison engines will provide your email or phone number out to each provider and let them attack you with follow up. But it also teaches users how and where to look for savings best most relevant to them.Īnother big win from The Zebra is that they promise a hassle-free savings without the spam. Not only does it help you get a more accurate quote to meet your needs. And you’ll get a summary email with your best price and top providers.īut perhaps my favorite service was the ability to customize my quote from templated coverage options of ‘Minimum’, ‘Basic’, ‘Better’, and ‘Best’. Not all quotes will have a price, but even then, the most likely opportunity for savings seemed to be at the top of the provider list. The Zebra does a great job listing the providers in order of relevance and savings. But in the event that your situation is unique, you will be provided with a way of reaching out to an agent throughout the process. With such an easy to use tool, there isn’t much need for customer service from The Zebra. However, this is as efficient a process possible to get a quote and know what you should be paying prior to sealing the deal on a new policy. So, what you pay may be influenced by subsequent interactions with an insurer. Remember, you’ll complete your transaction with the insurance provider of choice. Privacy and transparency really seem to matter to The Zebra, and they pledge to never sell personal information to spammers or bombard you with annoying calls, texts, and emails. So, it’s a huge added bonus that you won’t get spammed as a result of taking a couple minutes to explore your options. The Zebra makes their money from insurance providers, not you. And because pricing changes so often, The Zebra will automatically refresh your pricing when you get there.Īnd as a bonus, you’ll get all this free of spam. You’ll have plenty of options to consider when you’re done, and it really only does take a couple of minutes.Īnd if you’re not ready to pull the trigger right away, you can revisit your quote at any time via the site, or from the simple email, you receive right afterward. And the savings can be considerable – up to $670 a year or $54 a month. Using The Zebra is completely free and there’s no commitment required to get a quote for the best prices available. Typically, phishing scams require you to click on a link and complete an action like confirming personal information. Phishing emails and texts often look as if they are sent from trusted companies you may already know. The FBI reported that Americans lost more than $57 million in phishing scams alone in 2019. Phishing scams are popular because of the accessibility of reaching large numbers of people through email and text messages. Their goal is to access your personal accounts, such as email accounts and bank and other financial accounts. The information they want includes passwords, Social Security numbers, account numbers and more. With phishing, scammers use texts and emails to trick individuals into giving up personal information. Unless you pay close attention to your daily bank transactions, you may not notice the scam until much later. Upon receiving the draft, your bank will transfer money from your checking account to pay the scammer. Once the scammer has your checking and bank information, they put it on demand draft, which is processed like a check but doesn’t require a signature. They often play this off as a way to verify that you qualify for the offer. The goal is to get you to read off the numbers at the bottom of your personal checks. The way this scam works is that individuals receive a phone call or postcard indicating that they’ve won a prize or qualified for a special offer. Scammers like automatic withdrawals too, but for other reasons. Automatic Withdrawal ScamsĪutomatic withdrawals are a great way to automate your savings, pay bills and more. Be wary of cashing any rebate or refund check you weren’t expecting. Scammers are counting on your blindly accepting the check as free money and cashing it. Scammers use tactics like this to get you to authorize memberships, loans and other longer-term commitments that could cost you dearly. There’s a chance that you are entering into a legally binding contract by signing the check and cashing it. Inspect the check thoroughly, paying close attention to any fine print on the front or back. Have you ever received a check in the mail that you weren’t expecting? It could look like a rebate check or a refund for overpayment. So, when the check doesn’t clear, the funds are held against your account. However, the clearing process can take several days. You can deposit the check and pull cash from your account to pay the person their funds. They may mention that they don’t have an account at this particular bank but need the money. An individual approaches you outside of a bank or other financial institution asking if you will cash a check for them. This scam preys on the compassion and generosity of other people. Check-Cashing ScamsĪnother scam involving checks is the check-cashing scam. You’re also out any funds you wired to them and the product if you shipped it. Unfortunately, since the check was fake, you could owe the bank a returned check fee. Then, they ask you to deposit the money in the bank and wire the difference back to you. Overpayment scams typically begin with someone sending you a counterfeit check or money order for more than the amount owed. If you provide services or sell products online, you could fall victim to an overpayment scam. They'll figure out your diet," says Rathbun. These people were then the targets of "covert information gathering" that included searching through their trash, purchasing their phone records, hacking their airline reservations, going through their bank records, and reading their personal letters. In order to find a "direct line" to Parker and Stone, the OSA allegedly identified close friends of Parker and Stone, including formerly married actors John Stamos and Rebecca Romijn, "in an effort to find some weakness," says Kimberly Nordyke at The Hollywood Reporter. How did they conduct this alleged investigation? According to Rathbun, the OSA uses methods comparable to Cold War-era CIA and KGB "intelligence and propaganda techniques," such as investigation, threats, and infiltration. Former Scientology executive Marty Rathbun, who left the church in 2005, released an internal Scientology document on his blog detailing the investigation by the religion's Office of Special Affairs (OSA) - which he calls "the harassment and terror network of Corporate Scientology." The probe of Parker and Stone was apparently direct "retaliation for the South Park episode that exposed the religion's bizarre upper-level teachings," says Tony Ortega at The Village Voice. |
